PNG, WebP, AVIF or iPhone HEIC in — JPEG out, encoded with MozJPEG. Transparency is flattened onto a background colour you choose.
JPEG is the lowest common denominator, and sometimes that is exactly the requirement: a form that rejects anything else, a printer, a piece of software from 2009. The encoder here is MozJPEG, which produces meaningfully smaller files than a browser's built-in save at the same quality. Since JPEG has no alpha channel, anything transparent is composited onto a colour you pick rather than turning black.

MozJPEG, not a plain re-save
Mozilla's encoder applies trellis quantisation and better progressive scans, so files come out smaller than the browser's own JPEG writer at identical quality settings.
HEIC from an iPhone
iPhones shoot HEIC and most software still will not open it. Drop one here and it is decoded in the page, then written as a JPEG anything can read.
Transparency handled deliberately
JPEG has no alpha, so a transparent PNG would otherwise come out with black edges. Pick the background colour and it is composited underneath at full resolution.

How do I convert a PNG to JPG?
Drop the PNG and this page opens with JPEG selected. If the PNG has transparent areas, set the background colour first — JPEG cannot store transparency, so those areas have to become something. Then press Download.
How do I convert an iPhone HEIC photo to JPG?
Drop the .heic file. Safari decodes it natively and every other browser fetches a decoder the first time, then it is saved as JPEG. Nothing is uploaded, so a whole camera roll's worth of private photos stays on your device.
Why did my transparent PNG turn black as a JPEG?
Because JPEG has no alpha channel, and transparent pixels usually carry black in their colour channels. This tool asks for a background colour and composites it underneath, so you get white — or whatever you choose — instead of black.
Will converting to JPG reduce quality?
JPEG is lossy, so yes, controlled by the quality dial. At 78 the loss is invisible for photographs. Converting a screenshot or line art to JPEG is a bad trade at any setting — PNG or WebP will be both smaller and sharper for those.
Is JPG or JPEG correct?
They are the same format. The three-letter extension is a leftover from filename limits on old systems; files here are saved as .jpg because that is what most software expects.
