Privacy Policy

🔒 The short version: every file you use with Imbuz is processed inside your browser and never uploaded. The only personal data we receive is what you choose to send us — through the contact form, the chat assistant or email.

1. Who we are

Imbuz is an independent set of free, browser-based file tools, located at imbuz.com. For any privacy-related enquiries, contact us at helloimbuz@gmail.com.

2. What data we collect

We collect minimal data to operate the website. Specifically:

  • Images you process: We collect nothing. All image processing happens entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device.
  • Usage data: Only if you allow Analytics in the cookie notice, Google Analytics 4 records which pages you view, roughly where from (country and city) and on what kind of device and browser. It is off — not even loaded — until you switch it on, and you can switch it off at any time. We use no advertising tags. The accessibility widget sends anonymous counts of which of its features are used (for example “text size”), with no identifiers, and reports accessibility problems it finds on a page so we can fix them.
  • Cookies and local storage: Imbuz sets no cookies of its own unless you allow Analytics, which sets two Google Analytics cookies. It keeps a few small values in your browser — your cookie-notice choice, your accessibility settings, your per-device file counts and an open chat conversation. The contact form’s spam check may set a security cookie of its own. No tracking or advertising cookies are used.
  • Contact enquiries: If you contact us through the contact form or by email, we store your name, email address and message solely to respond to your enquiry. The form asks you to confirm this before sending. If you also tick the optional follow-up box, we may email you later about that same enquiry — for example when a problem you reported is fixed — and nothing else. Reply at any time to withdraw it.
  • Chat questions: Questions you type into the chat assistant are sent to our chat provider to generate an answer from this website’s pages. Don’t include personal details you wouldn’t want stored.

3. How we use data

We use the limited data we collect to:

  • Operate and improve the Imbuz website
  • Respond to support or contact enquiries
  • Answer questions asked in the chat assistant
  • Fix accessibility problems the accessibility widget reports on our pages
  • If you allow Analytics, understand which pages and tools are used, so we know what to improve

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond operating the tool.

4. Your images are private

The image optimisation tool runs entirely client-side. When you upload an image, it is loaded into your browser's memory. All processing — including resizing, cropping, rotation, and AVIF encoding — is performed using WebAssembly running locally on your device. The processed image is saved directly to your device. At no point does any image data travel over a network.

5. Cookies and local storage

Imbuz sets no cookies of its own unless you allow Analytics — then Google Analytics sets two (_ga and _ga_8VHJQ1ZM8T). It uses your browser’s local storage for a few small values: your response to the cookie notice, your accessibility widget settings, the number of files you have processed on this device, and — only while the tab is open — your chat conversation. These values are:

  • Stored only on your device
  • Never sent to us or anyone else, except a chat question at the moment you ask it
  • Cleared when you clear your browser data (the chat conversation clears when you close the tab)

The contact form’s invisible spam check (Google reCAPTCHA or Cloudflare Turnstile) may set a security cookie of its own when you use the form.

6. Third-party services

Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd / Google LLC) processes usage data on our behalf, only if you allow Analytics. Google does not store full IP addresses for GA4 data. We do not use Google’s advertising features or share this data for advertising. See Google’s privacy policy.

The contact form, the chat assistant and the accessibility widget are provided by Sitekit, a service run by Lumiave (tools.lumiave.com). Form submissions, chat questions and the widget’s anonymous usage counts are processed by Sitekit on our behalf, only to deliver those features.

The contact form is protected from spam by an invisible check from Google reCAPTCHA or Cloudflare Turnstile. It loads only on pages with a form and is subject to Google’s or Cloudflare’s privacy policy. If you choose the readable or dyslexia-friendly font in the accessibility widget, that font is downloaded from Google Fonts or CDNFonts.

The tool loads certain open-source libraries (such as the AVIF encoder and ZIP library) from third-party CDNs (esm.sh, jsDelivr). These CDNs may log your IP address as part of standard CDN access logs, subject to their own privacy policies. We do not control this data and do not receive it.

7. Data retention

We do not retain any file or image data, as none is ever collected. Messages sent through the contact form or by email are kept for up to 12 months after your enquiry is resolved. Chat questions are processed to answer you and are not used to identify you. The accessibility widget’s usage counts are anonymous. Google Analytics data, if you allowed it, is kept according to the data-retention setting of our Google Analytics account.

8. Your rights

Under applicable privacy law (including GDPR where relevant), you have the right to:

  • Request access to any personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of that data
  • Object to processing or request restriction of processing
  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

9. Children's privacy

Imbuz is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
