About this tool

Straighten it, or turn it a quarter turn

Turn it 90° at a time, flip it 180°, or drag the slider to straighten a crooked shot. The canvas grows to fit, so nothing gets clipped.

The buttons handle the common case — a photo that came off the camera sideways — in one click. The angle slider is for the other case: a horizon that is two degrees off. The canvas is enlarged to the rotated bounding box rather than cropping the corners away, so a straightened photo keeps everything it started with.

Quarter turns are exact

A 90° or 180° rotation just moves pixels to new positions — no interpolation, no softening. Applied and downloaded, it is pixel-for-pixel the original, reoriented.

Any angle, nothing clipped

Rotate 7° and the canvas grows to the new bounding box instead of cutting the corners. The sidebar shows the dimensions it will become before you apply.

Then crop the corners off

A non-right-angle rotation leaves transparent wedges. Crop them away on the same page, or let JPEG fill them with the background colour you choose.

Step by step

How to rotate an image

  1. Add your image

Drop a JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or iPhone HEIC onto the page, or press Browse files. It opens in this tab — nothing is uploaded.

  2. Turn it

Rotate 90° left or right, turn it 180°, or drag the slider to straighten a crooked horizon by any angle — the canvas grows so nothing is cut off.

  3. Download

Save the rotated image straight to your device. Every step is in the history, so you can undo before you save.

Questions

Questions about this tool

Everything here runs in your browser, so the answer to “where does my file go?” is always: nowhere. More in the general FAQ.

Can I rotate an image 90 degrees without losing quality?

Yes. A 90° or 180° rotation is a rearrangement of existing pixels with no resampling, so the result is bit-for-bit identical to the original, just reoriented. Save as PNG, or as your original format, and nothing is lost.

How do I straighten a crooked photo?

Use the angle slider for fine control — one or two degrees is usually enough. The preview updates as you drag. Because a slanted rotation leaves transparent corners, crop in slightly afterwards, which is the same thing photo editors do when you straighten.

Why does my rotated image have transparent corners?

Rotating a rectangle by anything other than a multiple of 90° produces a larger rectangle with empty wedges at the corners. The canvas is grown so nothing is clipped, and those wedges are transparent. Crop them off, or pick JPEG and set a background colour to fill them.

Does this fix photos that appear sideways?

Usually the file is fine and the viewer is ignoring its EXIF orientation flag. This tool reads that flag when decoding, so what you see here is the correct orientation. Rotating and re-saving bakes it into the pixels, which fixes it for viewers that ignore the flag.

Is the rotation permanent in the downloaded file?

Yes. The rotation is applied to the pixels themselves rather than recorded as a metadata flag, so every viewer shows it the same way.
