Domain Age Checker
Find out exactly how old a domain is. The registration date, expiry date, registrar, status and name servers come straight from the domain's registry, through RDAP, the official service that is replacing WHOIS.
What the domain age checker shows
- Age and registration date: when the current registration began. If a domain lapsed and was registered again, the age counts from the new registration.
- Expiry date: when the current registration runs out, with a warning inside 30 days.
- Registrar: the company the domain is registered through.
- Status codes: locks, holds and pending deletions, each explained.
- Name servers: where the domain's DNS is hosted.
Enter a subdomain or a full URL and the registered domain is looked up, so https://blog.example.co.uk/post finds example.co.uk.
Does domain age matter for SEO?
Not by itself. Google has said domain age isn't a ranking factor. Older domains often rank well because they've had years to earn links and build content, not because of the date. What does matter is history: a domain bought after it expired may carry penalties, or a reputation for content unrelated to yours, so check what was on it before you buy.
Questions
Why are the owner's name and email missing?
Since GDPR, registries and registrars withhold personal contact details for most domains. Registrars offer a contact form or an anonymised email address instead, and legitimate requests can go through the registrar.
Why does it say my domain's registry doesn't support RDAP?
All generic domains such as .com, .net and .org, and most country domains, publish data through RDAP. A few country registries still offer only WHOIS, which this tool doesn't query.
Is RDAP the same as WHOIS?
It holds the same registration data in a structured format, served over HTTPS. ICANN made RDAP the official source for generic domains in 2025, and WHOIS is being retired.
Can I see when a domain will become available?
If the status shows "redemption period" or "pending delete", the domain has expired and is on its way to being released, usually within about 35 days. A domain that is simply past its expiry date may still be renewed by its owner during a grace period.
