Redirect Checker
Paste up to 2,000 URLs to trace every redirect: each 301, 302, 307 and 308 hop, where the chain ends, and what's worth fixing.

What the redirect checker shows
Each URL is requested exactly as a browser or Googlebot would request it, but redirects are followed one hop at a time, so every step is recorded: its status code, where it points and what kind of move it makes.
- Every hop, labelled. HTTP to HTTPS, adding or removing
www, a trailing slash, a new path or a different domain. - Redirect chains. Any URL that takes two or more redirects to reach its destination.
- Temporary redirects. 302 and 307 responses, which tell search engines the move might be undone.
- Loops and dead ends. Chains that circle back on themselves, or end in a 404, 410 or server error.
301 vs 302 vs 307 vs 308
| Code | Type | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| 301 | Permanent | A page has moved for good. Search engines move ranking signals to the new URL. The usual choice for SEO. |
| 308 | Permanent | Like 301, but the request method (for example a form POST) must stay the same. Treated the same as a 301 for SEO. |
| 302 | Temporary | A short-term move, such as a page under maintenance. Google may keep the original URL indexed. |
| 307 | Temporary | Like 302, but keeps the request method. Browsers also show 307 for HSTS upgrades, which happen before any request is sent. |
How to fix a redirect chain
- Run the old URLs through this checker and filter by Chains.
- For each chain, note the final URL in the Ends at column.
- Change the first redirect so it points straight at that final URL. Every hop in between can then be retired.
- Update internal links, canonical tags and your sitemap to use the final URL, so nothing needs to redirect at all.
Google follows up to 10 hops in a chain, but each extra hop slows visitors down and wastes crawl budget, and long chains are where loops and mistakes hide. Read more in the guide to redirect chains and how to fix them.
Questions
How many URLs can I check at once?
Up to 2,000 per run, free and without signing up. Most free redirect checkers stop at 25 or 50.
Does it detect JavaScript and meta refresh redirects?
No. It records HTTP redirects, the 3xx responses sent by the server, which are the ones search engines treat as real redirects. A page that redirects with JavaScript or a <meta http-equiv="refresh"> tag shows as a 200 here, and is worth changing to a server-side 301.
Is a redirect chain bad for SEO?
One or two hops are normal, for example http:// to https:// to www. Longer chains slow pages down and can stop Googlebot reaching the destination if they pass 10 hops. Pointing every redirect straight at the final URL is the fix.
Why does my browser show a different redirect?
Sites sometimes redirect by country, device or cookie, and browsers remember HSTS and old 301s. This checker sends a fresh request from Cloudflare's network with no cookies. Try "Request as Googlebot" to see what Google is sent.
