Sitemap Extractor
Get every URL out of a sitemap. Sitemap indexes are followed all the way down, gzipped files are unpacked, and you can export the full list to CSV.
| Sitemap | Type | Contains | Status |

What it handles
- Sitemap indexes, including indexes that point to other indexes. Up to 500 sitemaps and 250,000 URLs per run.
- Gzipped sitemaps (
.xml.gz), detected from the file itself rather than its name. - Text sitemaps (one URL per line) and RSS/Atom feeds, which Google also accepts as sitemaps.
- Extras: image, video and hreflang entries are counted for each URL, and
lastmod,changefreqandpriorityare included in the CSV.
URLs that appear in more than one sitemap are listed once. Sitemaps over the protocol's 50,000-URL limit are flagged, because search engines may ignore the URLs past the limit.
Questions
Why does a sitemap fail with "returns an HTML page"?
The URL answered with a web page instead of XML. Usually the sitemap has moved, or the site shows its homepage for unknown URLs. Run the domain through the Sitemap Finder to find where it actually is.
Does Google use priority and changefreq?
No, Google ignores both. It does use lastmod, but only when the date is consistently accurate. A sitemap where every lastmod is today's date tells Google nothing.
Can I check the extracted URLs?
Yes. Filter the list if you need to, then send it to the Status Code Checker to find redirects and broken pages, or to the Indexability Checker to find noindexed pages. A sitemap should only contain indexable URLs that return 200.
